Innovative and transition potential of intentional sustainable communities: Towards an exploratory conceptual model

Title: Innovative and transition potential of intentional sustainable communities: Towards an exploratory conceptual model
Authors: Nogueira, Carla; Pinto, Hugo; Marques, João Filipe
Abstract: The number of ecovillages – intentional sustainable communities – is showing signs of growth all over the world. These self-organized groups can be seen as agents of change that may contribute to the transition to a more sustainable environmental, social, economic and political paradigm. This article seeks to reflect on the ‘transitional potential’ of intentional sustainable communities as mechanisms that foster the development of social innovation practices. It is an exploratory study that debates the articulation between an empirical phenomenon, the existence of this type of communities, and a theoretical perspective, the study of transitions. This study is based on a systematic literature review to identify relevant analytical dimensions and suggests a conceptual model that provides comprehension of the phenomenon of intentional sustainable communities as a mechanism for social innovation and transformative change.

Authors: Ribeiro, Raquel; Santos, Ana Cordeiro
Conclui que a financeirização da habitação é um fenómeno mais significativo na aml, tendo-se verificado nesta área metropolitana uma relação mais intensa entre finança e habitação, associando nova construção e dispersão populacional a crédito hipotecário.; Mortgage credit marks housing provision in Portugal since the beginning of the 1990s, becoming an important mechanism of reproduction of social and territorial inequalities. Based on data from the Census of 2011, this article analyzes the relationship between forms of housing provision and socioterritorial heterogeneity in the Metropolitan Areas of Lisbon and Porto. The article concludes that financialization of housing is mostly a phenomenon of the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon, where a closer relationship was found between finance and housing, associating new construction and population dispersion with mortgage credit.

Antiguidade e poder simbólico na praxe académica

Title: Antiguidade e poder simbólico na praxe académica
In the context of Portuguese higher education, hazing consists of a set of initiation rituals in which a vast number of students participate in. It involves the exertion of power by senior students over newcomers, in an asymmetric logic that imposes a seniority-based hierarchy. This article analyzes the manifestations, origins, and mechanisms of legitimation of this power. Such power emanates from the oldness of seniority of students as members of an established group, capable of enforcing norms and boundaries, and reinforces itself through a ritual and symbolic dimension that legitimizes and naturalizes it, thus concealing it as a form of power.
